Our latest annual report is out! 2011 to 2012 was a very productive and successful year for Creative Nature, during which we received Children in Need funding to provide a Creative Nature programme for every child in care of primary school age in Cornwall.  These programmes were a great success and culminated in a feature on BBC South West’s Children in Need night.

Creative Nature has become a partner in Plymouth University’s ‘Good from Woods’ research project, which will be examining the wellbeing and social cohesion benefits of woodland-based activities.

Many children, young people and adults who have taken part in one of our Creative Nature programmes have told us how powerful the experience has been for them; often awakening a deep sense of wonder for the natural world, a feeling of being inspired and rejuvinated and opening up the potential for more meaningful bonds with their peers.

We’re therefore delighted to have this opportunity to examine what exactly is happening when people feel this way, what is it about being in the woods that improves our wellbeing and how does this happen?

We’ll be working with Good from Woods over the next year, and will be reporting our findings along the way…so watch this space!

Our annual report for the last financial year has now been published.

It’s been an exciting year introducing our Creative Nature programmes into Devon and Cornwall and building new partnerships in the region.

You can download a pdf of the annual report by clicking here.  If you would prefer a hard copy please phone our office on 01752 823443 and we will be happy to post one out to you.

The Big Fish Ventures team were delighted to find out that our Director, Kate Holdom, was one of 3 finalists shortlisted for an award in the category ‘Enterprise in Cornwall’ at the recent Plymouth Enterprise Awards, in recognition of her work at Big Fish Ventures with our Creative Nature programmes.

Plymouth University host these annual awards to recognise and celebrate the outstanding contribution and achievements of community and business partners as well as staff and students of the university.

Our congratulations go to Kate, who has invested bags of energy, enthusiasm and hard work into launching Big Fish Ventures in the South West.

This last half term saw 3 Creative Nature activity days take place at Nine Ashes, near Bodmin, as part of North Cornwall’s extended services for school children in the area.  We had over 50 children and young people attend over the 3 days and take part in activities ranging from den building to creating halloween gargoyle lanterns out of natural materials found in the woods.

Our next round of activities as part of this programme will take place in Easter 2011, so watch this space!

We are delighted to announce that Big Fish Ventures has received Children in Need funding to run a series of Creative Nature programmes across Cornwall.  We will be working with groups of children in care, and children who have been affected by domestic violence.  The programmes are scheduled to commence in spring 2011 and will include our usual fusion of activities including bushcraft, games and nature play, creative arts and nature awareness.
